Watercolour sketches

The sketchbook I usually use is going to be handed in with my current college work, so I've been getting replaced to my surragate; a watercolour Moleskine.

I was pretty annoyed when the sketchbook (purple label) was rejecting watercolours so much. There used to be some rejection in the old books (my previous two) but in the one i have now I literally have to soak the paper before any pigment will stay on. I'm sticking to acrylics, pencil and pen in there from now on haha. The watercolour sketchbook is much better. The format is a little odd though. I can't scan the whole flat-out of it in one slap, but I don't really cover te whole length that often. So, been working on my watercolour painting! :D please enjoy!

1.The paper does well with multiple beatings - did a painting I didn't like, slapped some emulsion and gesso on top and the paper still held its own. Thats 25% cotton for you (roughly a little bit more than there is in Primark's clothing).
2.The book is quite nice for thumbnailing comics in :D
3.Pig's are the closest animals to man apparently.
4.Flowers in a pub. Will use for Mum's Mother's Day card.

Since I already have a Livejournal and several online sketchbooks, this blog almost has no use. I intend to use this then to keep track of people's work that I enjoy, which i will post up and explain a bit at times, and also to showcase my own pieces.

I'm just finishing my second year at college and hopefully will be attending a foundation course next year before heading off to University. My main interests at the moment are painting and illustration but I always find bits and pieces that are outside of those two pretty big boxes, and no doubt they'll be posted here too.

I'll try to keep the blog pretty work safe, but sometimes it may go over bounds. I wont do that until I've learnt to use the cut feature on here, or failing that, I'll just show it in a link and not in an actual image.

This piece above is a tryptich, 3 paintings 20" x 25" oil on canvas. I was wary of overworking the image. Since this set I've been using the same principles in more paintings, as 2 out of 3 of these paintings show just how new to this idea of not sitting for hours on end I am. The end two look more like drawings than paintings. I shall post the best of those soon!
